The slava cake was broken in the presence of Serbian Patriarch Porfirije and Belgrade Mayor Aleksandar Šapić.
The celebration of the city slava continues at 19:00, with the traditional Ascension Day procession, which will be led by Patriarch Porfirije.
In addition to numerous guests, the ceremony was also attended by Director of the Serbian government’s Office for Public and Cultural Diplomacy Arno Gujon, Belgrade Archbishop Cardinal Ladislav Nemet and Belgrade Mufti of the Islamic Community of Serbia Mustafa Jusufspahić.
In the Orthodox Church of the Ascension, Patriarch Porfirije served the holy bishop's liturgy this morning, which marked the beginning of the celebration of slava of the city of Belgrade.
