Speaking at a press conference occasioned by the beginning of realisation of a twinning project for building capacities of the Serbian Water Directorate, Golubovic said that the project is being financed by the European Union through the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR). It is jointly implemented by the Serbian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management and the German Ministry for Environment, Nature Protection and Nuclear Safety.
Cooperation with German partners will enable harmonisation of Serbian regulations and laws in the field of water management with those of the EU, as well as a lasting cooperation that should facilitate a continued flow of knowledge in the field of integrated water management.
Director of the Serbian Water Directorate Nikola Marjanovic voiced satisfaction with the beginning of the project's implementation and said that twinning projects are projects of close partnership between public administrations of EU member states and EU candidate countries.
Spokesman of the EAR office in Serbia John White said that the value of the twinning project is €2.2 million, and that its realisation will last two years. He added that this is one of the biggest projects implemented by EAR.
He said that the project, among other things, includes the delivery of laboratory equipment for water monitoring, preparation and development of systems for water management, elaboration of a strategic plan for sewage systems and purification of waste waters, as well as elimination of "black spots" that pollute waters.
