At a press conference on the occasion of June 24, the Danube Day, Marjanovic stressed the significance of increased awareness in order to protect rivers from pollution.
He recalled that 90% of rivers going through Serbia are international, while only 10% begins and end in the country.
Marjanovic said that this year's celebration of the Danube Day will be organised by the Water Management Directorate, the Coca-Cola system, Belgrade City Hall and Tourist Organisation of Serbia and will be educational, culturological and ecological in character.
According to Marjanovic, more towns are joining the campaign each year and this year in Serbia, around 20 towns will take part in the celebration.
The main celebration will take place on June 24 at the Zemun quay and at the Kalemegdan fort.
The Danube Day is observed in all countries of the Danube basin and Serbia is one of the 13 signatory countries of the International Danube River Protection Convention.
