Speaking at a press conference, Dulic Markovic said that the service, which has been financed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is already functional. It will allow agricultural producers in Serbia fast access to accurate information, through the short message service (SMS).
Director for Press Relations in the Serbia Enterprise Development Project (SEDP) being financed by the USAID Slobodan Brkic said that Agro SMS is a non-profit service which should help producers from Serbia place their produce of fresh fruit and vegetables on the international market.
Brkic explained that users of the service will receive messages containing the latest prices of fresh fruit and vegetables on domestic wholesale markets in Belgrade, Nis and Kraljevo, and also from wholesale markets representing distributive centres for fruit and vegetables across Europe, in Paris, London, Hamburg and Rotterdam.
He said that by sending a message dialing number 2299 with the correct code for a certain product, agriculturalists can find out at any given moment the latest prices from wholesale markets in the country, according to the sources of the Serbian Agricultural Market Information System (STIPS) which are updated weekly, as well as prices from European centres which are updated daily.
