At a press conference, Sop recalled that since the beginning of 2006, publishers from Serbia have already taken part in book fairs in Paris, Prague, Minsk, Quebec, Sarajevo and Skopje, adding that around 30 publishers will present Serbia-Montenegro with 250 titles in Thessaloniki.
She announced that in cooperation with Serbia-Montenegro's embassy in Italy, Italian and Serbian professors will hold a symposium in Rome on June 8, concerning the works of Milos Crnjanski that deal with Italy.
Acting Director of the Association of Publishers and Booksellers Zoran Zivkovic pointed out that after Thessaloniki, the Moscow fair will take place in September, followed by the two world's greatest book fairs, in Frankfurt and Belgrade.
Advisor at the Ministry of Culture Snezana Pecenic presented the event "Encounters of cultures of Serbia and Ukraine," which began on May 10 in Kiev and said that the book "Recent Serbian Drama" will be presented to the Ukrainian public by the event's closing date, which is June 2. The book is a compilation of selected texts of contemporary Serbian writers.
Pecenic added that a part of the programme will be dedicated to the history of Serbian drama, especially to the works of its founder Jovan Sterija Popovic. The Ukrainian public will see parts of a number of TV dramas made after the works of Serbian drama writers Branislav Nusic, Borislav Pekic, Aleksandar Popovic, Dusan Kovacevic and Bora Stankovic, with Ukrainian subtitles.
She pointed out that Belgrade National Theatre will appear at the international theatre festival with the play "Kovaci".
First Secretary of the Ukrainian Embassy to Belgrade Yurii Lysenko voiced hope that the "Encounters of Culture" will open a new phase of good and permanent contacts between the two countries and announced that "Year of Ukraine in Serbia" will be held in October, while "Year of Serbia in Ukraine" will be held in 2007.
