The departure of the procession from the Admirala Geprata Street was followed by ringing of bells from all Belgrade churches. The first stop was made at Terazije fountain to say prayers for good health of the citizens of Belgrade. The second stop was made near the Cathedral Church, to say prayers to the Lord to save us from suffering, for peace and prosperity. The third stop, to say prayers for peace for the souls of the fallen heroes of Belgrade, was at the yard of the Ascension Church, in front of the granite cross.
The Ascension of the Lord, known among Serbian people as Spasovdan, is one of ten holidays dedicated to Christ, and is always celebrated on Thursday, 40 days after Easter.
Belgrade re-established the celebration of its Slava in 1992.
