He said that in one month, 216 discussions of relevance have been conducted and 86 items of information received which helped uncover certain cases of customs offences, including the discovery of 60 tonnes of textile worth 20 million dinars in Cajetina, as well as of a warehouse in the Belgrade neighbourhood of Ledine in which over 60,000 pairs of sport shoes were found, worth $1.128 million.
According to Jerinic, 700 pairs of designer shoes were found near Prijepolje and their value is estimated at €70,000, near Raska 15 kilograms of gold and silver worth €600,000 were found, while a contingent of sport shoes worth 11 million dinars were found in the Belgrade neighbourhood of Altina.
Jerinic stressed that despite reducing the number of employees in the customs to around 2,500, the department of customs intelligence is successfully dealing with various customs-related offenses.
Head of the department of customs intelligence Nikola Toncev said that the customs telephone line was in the first month maintained by up to three operators. The line was open every day from 8 am to 4 pm, while in the afternoon and on weekends all calls were recorded on the answering machine.
Toncev announced that operators will soon be working on the line 12 hours a day, or even 24 hours if necessary.
