Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus submitted his resignation from his position as Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Serbian negotiating team for talks with the EU, due to a halt in the talks on Serbia-Montenegro's EU association.
At a press conference, Labus said that he gave his letter of resignation to Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica because the government, contrary to the Prime Minister's promise, has failed to fulfill the political conditions necessary for the talks with the EU to continue.
Thus, one of the major interests of the state and its citizens has been let down, said Labus and added that the negotiations with the EU were proceeding in a satisfactory manner and that it was planned that the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU be signed this July.
Labus thanked the members of the negotiating team for the good work they have done so far and appealed to Head of the EU Integration Office Tanja Miscevic to retain her position.
