Djokic told a press conference that the ministry, together with the Coalition "Lista za Sandzak" and the Sandzak Democratic Party (SDP), held several meetings in the past few days regarding the impeachment of the municipal president and elections for appointing members to the Novi Pazar assembly. The assembly has been previously dissolved by the government's decision.
He pointed out that the ministry wanted to assist in the conclusion of the agreement and thus enable the impeachment to be performed in a democratic manner, with the consent of the Coalition and SDP.
The agreement was to define regulations for the implementation of the procedure and decide on the composition of the polling committee, said Djokic and added that for the Coalition and the SDP, the committee structure was a disputable issue.
"We were about to reach an agreement, but it turned out there are more demands by the Coalition which the SDP said they could not accept. These concern polling places and certain decisions of the polling committee in its present composition", he said.
Djokic assessed that bearing in mind its jurisdiction, the ministry could no longer influence the negotiating process. The polling committee, that was to be formed in line with the agreement, could solve all disputable issues, he added.
The Coalition Secretary General Fikret Miksic pointed out that the party finds certain polling places debatable, but is ready to compromise.
SDP Vice-President Munir Poturak said that for the agreement to be signed and completed, it is necessary to have a mediator appointed by the Serbian government. This will help the citizens of Novi Pazar at the upcoming elections to elect a president who will incorporate all political factors in the town and thus enable its development.
