Prime Minister Miloš Vučević attended today in the State Archives of Serbia the opening of an exhibition of archival documents on the occasion of marking 110 years since the beginning of the Great War.
After visiting the exhibition, Vučević said that the culture of remembrance of a people is necessary if it wants to go towards a certain future and at the same time learn to understand the present.
The State Archives of Serbia is an institution that is a keeper of identity of our people and state and all that it contains is part of our history, ups and downs and challenges.
The Prime Minister underlined that he is impressed that these documents, from the original ultimatum and the concept of the Serbian reply, have been kept and that they can be exhibited today.
Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković said that this exhibition opened symbolically on the day when Austria-Hungary sent the ultimatum to Serbia and that it will last until Sunday, 28 June, when Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia by telegram.
Selaković said that this exhibition will be held in all cities in Serbia which have state archives – 21 cities and four cities in Republika Srpska.
On this occasion, Director of the State Archives of Serbia Miroslav Perišić presented Prime Minister Vučević with a copy of the telegram by which war was declared on Serbia.
The ultimatum of Austria-Hungary to Serbia, the reply of the Serbian government to the ultimatum and the telegram of Austria-Hungary’s declaration of war on Serbia of 28 July 1914 are on exhibition in the State Archives of Serbia.
