At a press conference, she said that the 11th international fair "Hortikultura 2006" will for the first time be held under the auspices of the agriculture ministry. The fair will take place from April 19 to 22 at the Belgrade Fairgrounds and aims to present new and successful technologies regarding the growing of horticultural plants.
She said that in Serbia, the term horticultural plants has been reduced in meaning and implies only ornamental plants, but it will now be restored to imply fruit and vegetables as well.
It is necessary for the future of Serbian agriculture to encourage producers to grow fruit, vegetables and flowers besides wheat, said the Minister.
According to Dulic-Markovic, the fair "Hortikultura 2006", together with the international exhibition of medical herbs and honey products "Darovi Prirode", will gather over 100 domestic and foreign exhibitors of fruit, vegetables and flowers, as well as viticulture products.
She specified that 20 associations and individual producers will be presented on 270 square metres, adding that the date of the fair corresponds with the biological cycle of plants since the fair is taking place at the sowing time.
