Improving, strengthening economic relations with Cyprus

Belgrade, 27 May 2024

Prime Minister Miloš Vučević met today with Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Serbia Andreas Photiou and stated that the bilateral relations, which are based on the traditional friendship and closeness of the peoples of the two countries will be additionally improved through mutual effort.

Vučević emphasised that there is an interest in improving and strengthening economic ties, bearing in mind the economic potential of both countries.

The Prime Minister expressed his special gratitude to the ambassador for the consistent respect for the integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, as well as for the principled position of Cyprus when considering the request to initiate the procedure for the membership of so-called Kosovo in the Council of Europe.

Vučević also thanked the ambassador for the fact that Cyprus did not vote for the resolution on Srebrenica, despite numerous pressures.

Ambassador Photiou expressed his belief that the relations between the two countries, which are connected by strong friendship and historically confirmed closeness, will be further improved, and he particularly emphasised the importance of economic cooperation, investments and tourism.

Photiou congratulated Vučević on assuming the new position, stressing that he believes that during his mandate the excellent cooperation between the two friendly countries will be further improved.
