Prime Minister Ana Brnabic held a meeting with farmers today, in the presence of Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Jelena Tanaskovic.
Brnabic said that this is a historic meeting, given that representatives of more than 60 associations of farmers from all over Serbia are taking part in it.
She stated that this is the first time that a government has gathered all relevant associations from the field of agriculture, in order to present to them the budget for subsidies for the next year, which will amount to a record RSD 119 billion.
The formation of a Serbian chamber of agriculture was announced at the meeting, with the aim of enabling agricultural producers to protect their interests on the market through such a body.
During the greatest part of the meeting the farmers asked the Prime Minister and the Minister questions in order to resolve all open issues regarding the functioning of subsidies.
Each farmer had an opportunity to present their questions, dilemmas and suggestions for the additional improvement of agricultural production in Serbia.
Brnabic underlined that the government intends to hold such dialogues with farmers regularly, in order to continuously work with joint forces to further improve the position of agricultural producers.
