The agreement on Japanese government's donation worth €205,800 to support the development of the educational and health systems in Serbia was signed at the Serbian government's building today. The donation is intended for the University Child Clinic in Belgrade, the Popinski Borci elementary school in Vrnjacka Banja and the Bosko Buha elementary school in Belgrade.

Japanese Ambassador to Serbia-Montenegro Tadashi Nagai said following the signing ceremony that all three projects are intended for children, who are Serbia's future and who have the right to health care and education.
Nagai said that the quality of emergency medical aid significantly contributes to the increase in the number of patients saved, therefore this assistance is very significant. In addition, maintaining the high quality level of educational institutions is of vital importance for the development of society.
Stressing that the Japanese government is willing to continue with similar projects in Serbia-Montenegro, he reminded the public that the total amount of Japan's economic assistance to Serbia-Montenegro since 1998, including this donation, stands at $196 million.
On behalf of the Serbian government, Serbian Minister of Education and Sport Slobodan Vuksanovic expressed gratitude to Japan for all donations in the field of health care and education, especially taking into account the accumulated debts from previous years in these fields.
Serbian Minister of Health Tomica Milosavljevic thanked the Japanese government on behalf of Serbian citizens and children. He pointed out that owing to many donations from that country, the quality of child hospitals in Serbia is getting better.
Director of the University Child Clinic Zoran Krstic said that the assistance for this clinic, whose total value is €71,370, consists of 10 monitors and a bronchoscope that will contribute to higher-quality diagnosis of diseases of the youngest patients.
Director of the Bosko Buha elementary school Olivera Arsenijevic-Bozovic expressed gratitude for the donation worth &72,152 and said that this assistance will be of great benefit to this special school in the Belgrade municipality of Zvezdara.
The aid to the Popinski Borci elementary school worth €62,298 will be used for reconstruction of the boiler-room, the repair of toilet facilities and the roof of the gymnasium.
