Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated today that a new era is ahead of Serbia and the Republic of Korea in the development of economic and political relations.
Opening a regional conference held as part of the 2023 Knowledge Sharing Program (KSP), organised by the Korea Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), Brnabic recalled that she recently returned from a very successful visit to Korea, where she met with the country’s Prime Minister.
Brnabic added that during that visit, in addition to meeting with representatives of various companies from Korea, the Agreement on Mutual Encouragement and Promotion of Investments was signed, and talks on economic partnership between Serbia and the Republic of Korea began.
By the end of the year, I hope we will manage to sign an agreement with another Korean company about their possible investment in Serbia. All this is important in order to start a new era in the political and economic relations between Serbia and Korea, the Prime Minister pointed out.
She added that thanks to the Knowledge Sharing Program, i.e. Korea's direct support to our capacities and our knowledge, Serbia is already benefiting in a concrete way, through the Serbian government’s Office for Information Technologies and eGovernment.
Thanks to sharing knowledge with Korea, we in Serbia can boast about two Serbian-Korean information centres, one in Belgrade and one in Nis, and we are the only country in the region that has those two centres, she stated.
Brnabic also announced that the future support of the Republic of Korea to Serbia will be in areas that will be the focus of our future development, namely artificial intelligence and biotechnologies.
Thanks to Korea's support, when it comes to artificial intelligence, we completed the Artificial Intelligence Development Strategy in 2019 as the 26th country in the world only with such a strategy and the first country in this part of Europe. We continued to work on its implementation and founded a development institute, added Brnabic.
The Prime Minister also emphasised that Korea has given Serbia support to become a full member of the global partnership, that is, the global alliance for the development of artificial intelligence, which currently includes only 29 countries.
In the future, biotechnology will be the basis for the development of all those countries that understand where the world is going, and Korea is one of the world leaders. Serbia could not wish for a better partner who will help us raise our capacities with their knowledge and experience, the Prime Minister pointed out and thanked Korea for allowing Serbia to host today's seminar.
Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Serbia Jaewoong Lee underlined that Korea is a reliable partner to Serbia on its path of economic prosperity.
Ambassador Lee also said that the recent visit of the Serbian Prime Minister to his country strengthened the cooperation between Serbia and Korea, and that today's event only confirms that.
Today's seminar is an ideal opportunity to exchange experiences among partners, Ambassador Lee added.
The regional conference is being held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Belgrade as part of the 2023 Knowledge Sharing Program, organised by the Korea Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), and the theme of the conference is "Toward Innovation-led Economy".
The 2023 Knowledge Sharing Program is a knowledge-based development and economic cooperation program designed to share the development experience of the Republic of Korea with partner countries.
