Speaking at a press conference, Cubrilo said that TOS will insist on hospitality, good humour and traditions of the Serbian people. The tourist attractions of Belgrade, Novi Sad, Danube, cultural tourism with an emphasis on middle-age Serbia, of activity holidays in natural surroundings, and village and health resort tourism, will be represented in Berlin, she explained.
According to Cubrilo, Germany is one of the five most important markets for Serbia, and for the overall representation of TOS at the fair in Berlin the minimum sum of €60.000 is required.
She said that the sum is not so large considering the investments made by other countries into tourism presentations, and recalled that last year Serbia’s foreign currency revenues from tourism were $304.1, which is 38% more than 2004.
Cubrilo said that officially last year Serbia was visited by 29,021 German tourists, which is 14% more than in the year 2004. She pointed out that TOS expects a lot from this fair because it has a good history concerning presentations and getting good results.
She voiced hope that her representatives will succeed in stimulating the interest of a major tourist agency in Berlin to include Serbia as a tourist destination in its offers, which would encourage smaller agencies to do the same.
She recalled the result of TOS representation at the fair in Berlin last year, when this organisation won an award for its presentation, while Tourist Organisation of Belgrade (TOB) won the fair award for sport.
Director of TOB Olivera Lazovic said that last year Belgrade was visited by 16,845 tourists from Germany, while 18,247 arrived by ship. She added that this year it is expected that the number of visitors from Germany to Belgrade will increase by 60%.
She also said that TOB is planning a project for the representation and promotion of Serbia at the Soccer World Championship which will be held in Germany this year.
Apart from TOS and TOB, the Tourist Information Centre of Novi Sad, tourism organisations from Vojvodina and Zlatibor, Serbian Railways, JAT Airways, and hotels Palisad and Balkan, are also taking part in the fair. Brochures have also been prepared in German for the German tourism market.
