34th FEST opens

Film director Emir Kusturica officially opened last night the 34th International Belgrade Film Festival FEST 06 in Belgrade's Sava Centre. On the occasion, he pointed out that the purpose of this event is to make film authors the centre of attention.

Head of the Fest Council, film director Srdan Golubovic, also addressed the audience and stressed that Fest is one of the rare events which are strongly fighting against claustrophobia and provincialism.
He announced the guest of honour, French actress and singer Anna Karina, who greeted the audience in Serbian.
'I am glad I am here tonight, with so many wonderful people", she said, adding that she still has lovely memories of the filming of "La Soldates" that took place around 40 years ago in Yugoslavia.
The first screened film was Jim Jarmusch's "Broken Flowers", the winner of "The Grand Prix" at the Cannes Film Festival, and the second was Ang Lee's "Brokeback Mountain", the winner of "The Golden Lion" at the Venice Film Festival.
By March 5, several hundred films from all over the world will be screened at the Fest, out of which around 70 films will debut in Belgrade.
