Kusturica to open FEST 06

Belgrade, 24 February 2006

Film director Emir Kusturica will officially open tonight the international Belgrade film festival FEST 06 at the Great Hall of Belgrade's Sava Centre. Following the opening ceremony, the film "Broken Flowers" by Jim Jarmusch will be screened.

By March 5, when the 34th FEST will officially be closed, Belgrade audiences will be able to see 74 films among which are films by Ang Lee, Gus van Sant, Stephen Soderbergh, Baltasar Kormakur, Kim Ki-duk and others.

French film star Anna Karina arrived in Belgrade on the occasion of the festival and in her honour, several of her films will be played at the Museum of Yugoslav Cinematography. Karina will be presented with the Museum's special recognition "The Golden Seal".

The same recognition will also go to German film director Wim Wenders, who will officially close the festival on March 5 with his film "Don’t Come Knocking".
