Improvement of health system in Serbia’s focus

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic met today with Director of the World Health Organisation (WHO) for Europe Hans Kluge.

At the beginning of the meeting, Kluge expressed his condolences to the Prime Minister regarding the recent tragedies that befell Serbia.

The Prime Minister underlined that the focus of our country is on improving the health system, and added that this implies digitalisation of the sector with the aim of centralizing data, then work on prevention and mental health.

Brnabic said that at this moment it is very important that special emphasis be placed on improving the mental health of citizens, pointing out that after recent tragedies, Serbia is facing various challenges that can affect the mental health of all residents, especially young people.

When it comes to prevention, specialist examinations are now much more accessible to citizens than before. The Prime Minister assessed that this is very important, because early detection of health problems makes it easier to solve them.

Brnabic expressed her gratitude to Kluge for the cooperation during the COVID-19 pandemic and the implementation of various projects, especially when it comes to technical assistance and expertise, which will contribute to improving the level of health care in our country.

Kluge agreed with the Prime Minister and said that the European Union has the same priorities and emphasised that he will advocate for helping Serbia through IPA funds, as well as that he believes that the WHO will be recognized as a potential partner of our country.

The Director of the WHO Regional Office for Europe congratulated the Prime Minister on the selection of Serbia as the host of the International Specialised Exhibition EXPO 2027.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Health Danica Grujicic, Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation Jelena Begovic and Minister for European Integration Tanja Miscevic.
