Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Milos Vucevic talked yesterday with a delegation of the US Senate about regional security and the possibilities of strengthening the partnership of the two countries in the field of defence.
Vucevic pointed to the constant lack of readiness of representatives of the temporary institutions of self-government in Pristina for talks on the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities, noting that this is an obligation that Pristina accepted in 2015, and whose guarantor is the European Union.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that Serbia will not agree to the attempts of Pristina authorities to form the Community of Serb Municipalities contrary to the principles previously agreed.
Vucevic also stated that Serbia is closely following the tragic events in Ukraine and that it conducts its foreign policy in the spirit of declared military neutrality.
According to him, Serbia fully supports international law when it comes to the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
In this way, Serbia defends its national interests and status in the international community and is firmly determined to remain a promoter of dialogue and a factor of stability in the region, he underlined.
The importance of opening opportunities for intensifying cooperation between Serbia and the US in the field of defence was also highlighted at the meeting.
Vucevic said that there are clear indicators that show significant progress in mutual relations in the sphere of defence, pointing out that there are several areas in which cooperation between the two countries is realised, such as joint participation in multinational peace operations.
Members of the US Senate delegation expressed the expectation that in the coming period there will be further strengthening of cooperation in the field of defence between the two countries.
They also agreed that the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities is an obligation that the Pristina side undertook and that it is necessary that it fulfils it.
