At a press conference, Trickovic said that since the beginning of works in early September, 12 new pediatric rooms have been renovated, as well as the X-ray ward with three X-ray rooms and four ultrasound rooms, and a new roof has been put on the sterilising and genetics departments.
He stated that a new medical gas central supply system has been constructed, the water supply system has also been renovated and connected with the city sewage, the otolaryngology ward reconstructed and added that construction of a plastic surgery ward is in progress.
Trickovic announced that in the next stage the surgery and cardiovascular intensive care wards will be completely renovated, as well as a surgery ward with six theatres.
Serbian Minister of Health Tomica Milosavljevic explained that out of a €50 million loan from the European Investment Bank, granted for the reconstruction of 20 hospitals in Serbia, over €2 million have been set aside for the Mother and Child institute, that is €1.8 million for construction works and €260,000 for the necessary equipment.
Milosavljevic stressed that all investment projects are expected to be completed by mid 2007 and praised the fact that the reconstruction is not preventing the health centres from performing their daily duties in a normal way.
