Guitar Art Festival opens

The Seventh Guitar Art Festival was opened last night in Belgrade at the Kolarac Foundation by US Ambassador to Serbia-Montenegro Michael Polt.
One of the biggest celebrities at this year’s festival, American guitarist Manuel Barrueco performed to a full house at the Kolarac, playing on the classical guitar, compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach, Astor Piazzolla, Joaquin Turina and Issac Albeniz.
Barrueco, who is also a university professor, will hold today a “master class” for the winners of the first phase of the Guitar Art Competition, that traditionally begins along with the festival in three categories according to age.
In an accompanying programme “Midnight Guitar Art Café”, Ana Sofrenovic and the Jovan Maljokovic Band will perform at the Ellington Club of the Hotel Intercontinental, where jazz sessions, vocal performances and concerts will be held every night from 11 pm to 3 pm, until the end of the Guitar Art Festival.
The festival has been organised by the Yugoslavian Classical Guitar Association and the Belgrade Cultural Center, and concerts will be held at the Kolarac Foundation, Sava Center, Madlenianum Theater and the Russian Cultural Center.
