Regulations controlling work of judiciary in line with European standards

Minister for European Integration Tanja Miscevic informed today German Federal Government Special Representative for the Countries of the Western Balkans Manuel Sarrazin about the reform of the judiciary, the implementation of which is ongoing, after the adoption of a set of laws that enable greater independence of the courts and prosecutor's offices.

During the meeting, the most important reforms implemented by Serbia in the European integration process were discussed, as well as regional cooperation and the assistance that Serbia is ready to continue providing to Ukraine.

Presenting the government's activities on the implementation of obligations from the accession process, the Minister announced that a draft of the new strategy for the fight against corruption will be ready in May, as well as that two drafts of the amended media laws will soon be ready for public debate.

The interlocutors also discussed ways to improve the functioning of the single regional market, so that all economies and citizens in the Western Balkans could benefit from its additional liberalisation.

Sarrazin assessed that the quality of regulations that control the work of the judiciary is good and in line with European standards and pointed out that it is important that the application of these regulations is such as to contribute to the culture of strengthening professional and ethical norms among holders of judicial functions, and to the strengthening of European values, and first and foremost to a better legal security for all citizens.
