Improving railway traffic between Serbia, Slovenia

Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesic and Minister of Infrastructure of Slovenia Alenka Bratusek discussed today in Bled the improvement of railway traffic between the two countries, including the reconstruction of the railway from Belgrade to Ljubljana, via Zagreb.

It is very important for us to connect with Europe through the corridor that goes through Slovenia so that we have the possibility to use high-speed railways from that side as well, Vesic pointed out.

The minister noted that he had already discussed this matter with Italian Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini in Rome.

Today we agreed to initiate a joint meeting of representatives of Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia, to create a joint body between these countries, with the participation of the European Commission, which would coordinate the work on the reconstruction of the railways and which would prepare the train timetable and everything the rest that will be needed when we introduce high-speed railways, he pointed out.

Bratusek pointed out that cooperation with Serbia can be improved, with railway traffic being the area where the greatest strides in cooperation can be made, adding that many concrete things have been agreed upon, one of them being how to re-establish the night train from Ljubljana via Zagreb to Belgrade.
