During a meeting with UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression Irene Khan, Dacic stated that the Serbian government is making considerable efforts in this area, which is of particular importance in the context of progress in the area of European integration.
According to him, great attention is paid to the safety of media workers, which is illustrated by the existence of special bodies at the government level that deal with these questions.
The First Deputy Prime Minister said that Serbia will continue to actively work on strengthening the national system of protection, monitoring and reporting when it comes to threatened rights, protection and safety of journalists, as well as participating and supporting initiatives, coalitions and partnerships in international bodies responsible for this problem.
The UN Special Rapporteur expressed her gratitude to Serbia for its openness to cooperation, as well as to all competent authorities who responded to meetings during her visit to collect data on the regulatory framework and the application of regulations that guarantee freedom and pluralism of the media, freedom of the Internet and the right to freedom of expression of all social groups, especially minorities.
