At the traditional celebration of the Day of Saint Sava, the first Serbian Archbishop and enlightener, held on Friday evening, Serbian Minister of Education and Sport Slobodan Vuksanovic presented the Saint Sava awards to the best students, school principals, faculty deans and friends of the Serbian Ministry of Education and Sport who contributed to the improvement of education and sport in the last year.
At the celebration held in the Sava Centre, the awards were delivered to 35 pupils of elementary and secondary schools from Serbia who won at various school competitions at the republic level last year. Among them, there are five children with hearing problems.
Football player and member of the national football team Mateja Kezman and Serbian Minister of Finance Mladjan Dinkic were also presented with the awards.
Bishop of Sumadija Jovan blessed the audience that came to celebrate the name and work of Saint Sava and conveyed greetings from Serbian Patriarch Pavle.
The event was attended by Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, ministers and representatives of state bodies, the diplomatic corps and the Serbian Orthodox Church, and teachers from all parts of Serbia.
At the beginning of the ceremony, those present paid tribute to the victims of the terrible rail accident that took place near Podgorica on Monday.
