First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic met today with Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Emanuele Giaufret.
At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Giaufret congratulated Dacic on assuming the new office.
Dacic praised the cooperation to date between Serbia and the EU Delegation in Serbia and expressed the hope that it will continue in the same spirit, and underlined that the membership of the Republic of Serbia in the European Union remains a priority of our foreign policy and a strategic commitment.
The two officials expressed mutual readiness for further steps in the reform process, as well as the continuation of the political dialogue between Serbia and the EU.
Dacic reiterated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is ready and open for cooperation with the EU on all issues of mutual interest, with support and coordination with the Ministry for European Integration of the Republic of Serbia.
He stated that Serbia is ready to continue activities to prevent illegal migration, as well as further harmonisation with the EU regarding visa policy.
Dacic expressed his gratitude for the support we as a region receive from the EU, which is of inestimable importance for the implementation of reforms on the European road, as well as for the announced direct aid to Serbia in the amount of €165 million intended for overcoming the energy crisis.
Ambassador Giaufret confirmed the EU's commitment regarding the common ambition for Serbia to become a member of the Union.
In the context of Russian aggression against Ukraine, Giaufret said that the harmonisation of foreign policy, including restrictive measures, is of particular importance. We want to count on Serbia as a partner that is fully engaged in the defence of peace on the continent, as well as our common security and prosperity, he added.
He also encouraged Serbia to continue to actively work on regional cooperation and good neighbourly relations, including solving open bilateral issues with its neighbours.
Giaufret also highlighted Serbia's constructive role in migration management and welcomed Serbia's decision to harmonise Serbia's visa regime with the EU for countries that represent a security risk for the Union or a risk of irregular migration.
Ambassador Giaufret also thanked Serbia for its significant contribution to EU military missions around the world.
Bearing in mind the importance of the partnership between Serbia and the EU, he suggested intensifying the promotion of positive and mutually beneficial projects and activities in the public and the media.
When it comes to the situation in the southern Serbian province, the two officials agreed that all efforts should be focused on continuing the dialogue, since conversation is the only right way to resolve open issues, as well as to reach a sustainable agreement, according to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
