KFOR must not allow deployment of Albanian police in north Kosovo

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Milos Vucevic stated today that all moves of Pristina are being carefully followed and evaluated, which, contrary to the Brussels agreement, is making bases for special police units in the territory of four municipalities in the north of Kosovo and Metohija with the majority Serbian population.

In a statement to Tanjug news agency, Vucevic underlined that now that the Serbian policemen withdrew from the police force, a security vacuum has been created and the question arises as to who will carry out regular and everyday policing.

He voiced the hope that KFOR and EULEX will assume that role because it would be very dangerous if Pristina decided to send policemen of Albanian nationality from other parts of Kosovo and Metohija to the north, where majority Serbian municipalities are.

According to Vucevic, Serbia has no problem with the bases of KFOR as they are in line with Kumanovo Agreement and UN Security Council Resolution 1244, but it cannot accept that Regional Operational Support Unit (ROSU) or some other units make bases and demonstrate force at Jarinje, Brnjak or Gazivode.

KFOR is now a very significant actor since it is important that it does not allow Kurti to send Albanian policemen to the north to replace Serbian policemen, or to replace Serbian judges and prosecutors and practically carry out the occupation, in the true sense of the word, of four municipalities in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, Vucevic underlined.
