These agreements, which were signed in the presence of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and Secretary General of the Council for Regional Cooperation Majlinda Bregu, enable travel with an ID card in the region and mutual recognition of university diplomas and professional qualifications.
The agreement on the freedom of movement and residence of citizens, that is, on the mutual recognition of identity cards, simplifies the crossing of the border/administrative crossings of the residents of the Western Balkans, because it stipulates that the possession of an identity card is sufficient for crossing.
The agreement on the recognition of academic qualifications regulates the mutual recognition of university degrees, the continuation of studies and the rules on the use of acquired qualifications, including access to the labour market.
The agreement on the mutual recognition of professional qualifications for doctors, dentists and architects provides for the automatic recognition of professional qualifications for selected professions, which are lacking in the labour market, and enables the provision of services for doctors of medicine, dentists and architects in the Western Balkans, based on the EU Directive on the recognition of professional qualifications.
