Deputy Prime Minister and Chairwoman of the Coordinating Body for Gender Equality Zorana Mihajlovic spoke today with EU Commissioner for Equality Helena Dalli about the improvement of the position of women and their economic empowerment, the fight against violence against women and girls, the normative framework and the results achieved by the Coordinating Body in these areas.

At the meeting, which was also attended by Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Emanuele Giaufret, Mihajlovic pointed out that serious progress has been made since the establishment of the Coordination Body, as well as that legal and strategic frameworks in the field of gender equality and non-discrimination have been improved.
Not only do we have the political will, but we also actively, in cooperation with the relevant ministry and international partners, work to improve the position of women, Mihajlovic said.
Dalli presented the recent European Care Strategy of the European Commission, the Proposal for a directive on combating violence against women and domestic violence, as well as the recently agreed Directive on gender balance in boards.
She pointed out that the economic empowerment of women is a priority for achieving equality.
