Serbian Minister of Justice Zoran Stojkovic expressed his satisfaction today with the activities of the Serbian Ministry of Justice in 2005, in which, as he pointed out, 15 important new laws in the judiciary have been passed by the parliament.

At a press conference concerning the results achieved by the ministry in 2005, Stojkovic said that three bills are in the parliamentary procedure at present and that an additional ten are on the drawing board and should enter the parliament by mid 2006.
According to Stojkovic, another significant achievement of the ministry is the adoption of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy.
Stojkovic said that basic action plans for implementation of the strategy have already been made and added that the Bill on founding an independent anti-corruption body will be sent out for public discussion in January 2006.
He pointed out that the essential wish of the ministry in 2005 has been to strengthen the institutions of the judiciary and increase the effectiveness of prosecution and courts. According to Stojkovic, the priorities in 2006 will be the increase of effectiveness of courts and fight against corruption.
Stojkovic added that a draft version of the strategy for reforming the judiciary has been completed and that it will soon be sent out for public discussion.
According to Stojkovic, the Serbian government has shown political will and adopted the Bill on amnesty, insisting that it enters the parliamentary procedure immediately. Stojkovic also confirmed that the ministry has drawn up the Bill on rehabilitation and sent it out for public discussion.
