Introduction of telemedicine for greater efficiency of health system

The government of the Republic of Serbia announced today that several pilot projects have been launched within the Serbian healthcare system, the aim of which is to test the potential of certain forms of telemedicine in practice (primarily, electronic and telephone consultations between citizens, selected doctors and specialist doctors) to improve the treatment of patients.

Telemedicine pilot projects have a common idea to improve patient treatment and overall health care and to use the resources of our health system more efficiently.

The aim of the pilot projects is to reduce the movement of citizens, i.e., going to health centres or other health institutions, to save citizens time and money, and to enable doctors and health workers to be more efficient in their work and facilitate the organisation of work.

In the same way that various electronic services allow citizens not to be couriers who carry papers from counter to counter, these projects also support the idea that citizens should not carry referrals, results and findings from doctor to doctor, but that treatment should be faster and more efficient, in the best interest of both citizens and health workers.

So far, the eDiabetes pilot project and the Consultation of specialist doctors with citizens pilot project have been implemented within our health system, while the implementation of the pilot project Telephone Consultation of citizens with selected doctors at the primary level is planned to begin soon.
