Classes to start regularly from 1 September

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Branko Ruzic stated that the Schools Team today reviewed the epidemiological situation and concluded that there are no obstacles to the school year starting on 1 September, with in-person form of teaching and no limitation on the number of students in classes.

Ruzic pointed out that, considering the current epidemiological situation and the fact that with the application of appropriate measures, schools have not been the primary place of transmission of the virus to date, it was concluded that the return of students to the classrooms will not affect the increase in the number of coronavirus cases.

The recommendation of the Schools Team is to consistently apply the prescribed general and personal protection measures against the infection. It is especially recommended for sensitive people with an increased risk of more severe forms of the disease to use a protective mask in situations of mass gatherings in closed spaces without the possibility of maintaining distance.

In order to support schools, experts from the Institute for Public Health "Dr. Milan Jovanovic Batut" revised the Recommended Measures for the Prevention of COVID-19 in Schools and Facilities for Accommodation of Pupils and Students, which the Ministry forwarded to schools through school administrations.

Considering that the pandemic is still ongoing, as well as that there are risk factors that can lead to a worsening of the epidemiological situation, the Schools Team will continue to consider the epidemiological situation on a weekly basis, examine and review the recommendations, which will be changed as necessary, he concluded.
