Western Balkans Platform for Culture launched

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and Information Maja Gojkovic stated today that Serbia is committed to regional cooperation and that the Western Balkans Platform, launched today, has significant potential in European integration processes, which are the priority of the whole region.

At the Ministerial Meeting for Culture in Tirana, Gojkovic emphasised that the launch of the Platform has significant potential for the development of regional cultural cooperation and can be one of its key pillars, especially through synergy with other regional initiatives.

Speaking on the topic of the meeting "The role of youth in the protection and promotion of cultural heritage in the context of the European Year of Youth", the Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that greater involvement of young people can be provided through projects that strengthen their active role, through developing children's cultural needs. capacity of youth organisations.

Gojkovic stated that the main tasks in this framework of cooperation include the protection of cultural heritage from all kinds of challenges and forms of endangerment.

The cultural heritage in our region has been exposed to various forms of endangerment for a long time, which is clearly recognized by international organizations, such as UNESCO, she warned.

In addition to directly endangering the cultural heritage, for political or vandal motives, there is also illegal trade in cultural goods originating from the region, Gojkovic emphasised and noted that our country is on the route for smuggling works of art leading from the Middle East to Western Europe.
