Hydro power plant Djerdap example of regional, interstate cooperation

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic stated, at a ceremony marking 50 years of work of hydro power plant Djerdap 1 that the construction of this plant is an example of how large, joint, interstate regional projects are implemented.

Mihajlovic underlined that Serbia and Romania are an example of good neighbours in our region, two countries that have been linked through history by good relations between states and friendship of peoples.

At Djerdap the Deputy Prime Minister also spoke with Romanian Minister of Energy Virgil-Daniel Popescu about cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy, connections in gas sector, joint construction of infrastructure and new projects in the field of electric power industry, especially about the pumped-storage hydropower (PSH) facility Djerdap 3.

Mihajlovic underlined that for Serbia the priority is the construction of new energy production facilities, especially those that use renewable energy sources, as well as regional connections in the gas sector.

We want to work together on the realisation of the Djerdap 3 project, which is one the most important projects that Serbia has in its new investment cycle. The construction of this PSH facility is of regional importance. We have already spoken with interested companies, but it is also important that Romania forms part of such a big project, Mihajlovic said.
