Speaking at a press conference, Milosavljevic explained that the National office for HIV/AIDS has been opened with the aim of eventually taking on the responsibility of independently carrying out of all the activities concerning HIV/AIDS, as well as applying for donations and directing the international funds that support these activities in Serbia.
According to Milosavljevic, the activities of the National office for HIV/AIDS will be aimed at reducing damage, doing research work and evaluation, creating guidelines and managing projects and information.
Milosavljevic pointed out that in the beginning, the HIV/AIDS office will be financially and operationally aided by the World Health Organisation, the World Bank, the UN thematic group for HIV/AIDS, UNICEF and several NGOs.
Director of the institute “Milan Jovanovic Batut” Tanja Knezevic said that the National office for HIV/AIDS will coordinate HIV/AIDS responses in Serbia and give support to the National Commission for fight against HIV/AIDS, the Serbian Ministry of Health and public health institutes towards more effective implementation of a strategy for the fight against HIV/AIDS.
