During the talks on the topic "How technology can drive economic growth”, Brnabic said that the decision to establish the WEF centre in Belgrade, the first of its kind in the Western Balkans, is part of all that has been done in Serbia over the past few years and she expressed her gratitude to the WEF on the help in developing the concept and preparing for the opening of the centre.
According to her, the WЕF recognised that Serbia’s great potential is knowledge, which is why it can be one of the leaders of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the IT industry and high technologies are the main competitive weapon of Serbia which can take it to a much better future.
She emphasised that the opening of the WEF centre will help not only Serbia, but the entire region, adding that for small countries like ours, the IT sector and digitalisation are the main trump card and the only way to make up for the time lost and reach developed countries.
Brnabic recalled that, when she became Prime Minister in 2017, the Serbian government placed focus on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and digitalisation in all areas.
Serbia invests a lot in education and computer programming is part of school curriculum, she said and added that tax reliefs have been introduced for everyone who invests in the development of new technologies.
For all these reasons, the IT sector has the fastest annual growth rate of 25-26 percent, and the number of people working in this field has more than doubled, she noted and added that this sector has the largest exports in the Serbian economy.
Brende said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Brnabic, Serbia has taken many initiatives in encouraging productivity and highlighted the fact that computer programming has been introduced in school curriculum.
The WEF Centre in Belgrade is very important and is showing that Serbia is going ahead, especially in the field of new technologies, he underlined and added that the focus of today’s talks was artificial intelligence, the Internet of things, the future of production, new technologies and other.
