Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated today that in July this year alone, the export of information and communication technologies (ICT) reached a record 171 million euros, which is 56 percent more than in July last year.
At the ceremony on the occasion of announcing the winner of the first competition for support of innovations and digital transformation within the "StarTech" programme, Brnabic stated that it is approximately 35 percent more than in July 2019, adding that with this trend the sector is expected to reach exports of 1.7 billion euros.
As she pointed out, Serbia is approaching the figure of two billion euros from the export of the ICT sector, and this year our country will achieve a surplus of more than a billion euros from the export of services in that area.
She specified that compared to July 2016, when the Government of Serbia focused on the development of digitalization and support for innovation, the export of the ICT sector is even three times higher today, estimating that this is an incredible result.
The Prime Minister stated that the number of employees in the programming sector in the last quarter of 2020, compared to the first quarter of 2016, doubled, from approximately 19,000 to about 39,000.
Brnabic emphasised that the average salary in the IT sector today is three times higher than the average salary in Serbia and amounts to RSD 175,000 a month, estimating that this is what keeps young people from staying in the country, but also that those who left return.
That is the potential for further growth and development of the country, and we are a country of advanced technologies, ideas and creativity, the Prime Minister concluded.
Within the mentioned programme, which is carried out by NALED, one million dollars of support is awarded to startup teams, entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises for the realization of prominent project ideas in the field of innovation and digital transformation.
