Consulate General of Turkey opened in Novi Pazar

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu attended today the ceremonial opening of the Consulate General of that country in Novi Pazar.

The opening ceremony began with the intonation of the anthems of Serbia and Turkey, and after that Selakovic pointed out that the opening of the consulate was the result of an agreement between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan from 2019.

This year marks 142 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Turkey, and we are proud that at the same time our countries record the highest level of relations, which is characterized by trust, friendship and mutual cooperation, the Minister emphasised.

He noted that Turkey and Serbia, whose relations are very important, share the same vision of a peaceful and prosperous Balkans.

We wish that our citizens of Bosniak nationality enjoy what the economic successes of Serbia are and its progress at every step, Selakovic said.

Cavusoglu pointed out that today is a historic day, because Turkey is the first country to open a consulate in Novi Pazar.

Our brothers in Sandzak and our citizens who originate from Sandzak are a strong link between our countries. The consulate covers a wide area, from Pirot to Uzice. I hope that the investments of our companies in that area will increase, which we encourage, he said.

At the end of the opening ceremony of the Consulate General, video messages from the presidents of Serbia and Turkey were broadcast to the participants.
