Prime Minister Ana Brnabic talked today with Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia Igor Zorcic, emphasising that there are very good political and economic relations with that country.
Brnabic noted the importance of holding sessions between the two governments, and her interlocutor assessed that good bilateral relations are nurtured at several levels, and in that context stated that the parliamentary group of friendship with Serbia also works successfully in the Slovenian parliament.
The Prime Minister congratulated Slovenia on its presidency of the European Union, thanking for the sincere and open support that the country provides to Serbia on its path to full membership in the EU and the firm position that the enlargement of the Union to the Western Balkans is necessary.
According to her, Serbia is ready to open two clusters, and significant progress has been made in the areas of rule of law, freedom of the media, fight against corruption and organised crime.
Zorcic agreed with the assessment that EU enlargement to the Western Balkans would ensure regional security, adding that he expects some progress to be made at the next Intergovernmental Conference, in the fall.
He reiterated that this is one of his country's foreign policy priorities and that parliamentary diplomacy is of special importance in that field.
When it comes to the position of members of the Serbian people in Slovenia, Zorcic said that the issue was recognised in Slovenia, not only when it comes to Serbs, but also other nations, and that is why the Council for Minorities was formed to ensure better exercise of rights to members of all national minorities.
