Works on transfer station "Banjica" to be completed by mid-December

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic visited today, together with Minister of Environmental Protection Irena Vujovic, the works on the construction of the transfer station "Banjica" on the road Bistrica-Priboj, as well as the landfill "Stanjevine" in Prijepolje.

Brnabic reminded that her first meeting with Minister Vujovic was about the Stanjevina landfill in Prijepolje, which, as she assessed, was a decades-long problem for the inhabitants of Prijepolje.

The Prime Minister mentioned that in the previous mandate, as the Prime Minister, she received many questions from the deputies from those parts in the Assembly of Serbia, when and how the landfill "Stanjevina" will be resolved.

Minister Vujovic and I then concluded that this is a project that is a signal to all our citizens to deal with the environmental issue in a different way and that we must solve it first, said Brnabic, expressing gratitude to Vujovic and her team for having understood in the most serious way what the first project that was completed during the mandate of this government was about.

We solved the landfill "Stanjevina", completed the rehabilitation, recultivated the land, planted conifers, the Prime Minister pointed out and added that all waste is now directed to Priboj, to the landfill which is also unsanitary, until the transfer station "Banjica" is completed to the middle of December.

According to her, when this transfer station is completed, the Priboj landfill will be closed and rehabilitation and reclamation will be done there.

She announced that, with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, a regional centre for solid waste management will be built and that an additional RSD 96 million will be invested in expanding the capacity of the regional sanitary landfill "Duboko" in Uzice, and that the problem of solid waste will be solved. waste for that part of Serbia.

The Prime Minister announced that by the end of the year, three chains will be set up in Priboj, Nova Varos and Prijepolje, which will collect all waste from the Lim River, and that wastewater treatment plants will be built in Priboj and Nova Varos, which will complete the whole process.

The work around the landfill will be solved in accordance with the highest European standards, said Brnabic and announced that she would come many more times to monitor the entire process of cleaning the landfill in Priboj.

Vujovic said that the construction of the transfer station "Banjica" is a precondition for the establishment of a modern regional centre for waste management, to which the municipalities of Prijepolje, Priboj, Nova Varos and Sjenica will gravitate.
