They discussed the coordination of work regarding the implementation of activities from the Action Plan for Chapter 23 within the accession negotiations between the Republic of Serbia and the EU regarding the refrain from commenting on court decisions by civil servants and politicians.
On that occasion, it was emphasised that raising awareness about refraining from commenting on court decisions, especially in the media, is very important for strengthening full respect for court decisions.
It was pointed out that in 2016, the government adopted the Code of Conduct for members of the government on the limits of permissibility of commenting on court decisions and proceedings.
In addition, since 2017, at the proposal of the Ministry of the Interior, the government has adopted the Code of Police Ethics in accordance with the Law on Police.
The participants in the meeting agreed that by introducing new activities in the Action Plan for Chapter 23, which refer to holding quarterly meetings between the Prime Minister, the President of the National Assembly, the Minister of Justice, the President of the High Judicial Council and the President of the State Prosecutors Council, Serbia created significant conditions to improve the situation in this area.
