Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said today that Serbia’s exhibition at Dubai Expo 2020 will be the highlight of all the successes Serbia has achieved since 2015 in the field of digitalisation, creative industries and innovation.
Speaking at a press conference at the Palace of Serbia on the occasion of the announced participation of Serbia in this event, Brnabic said that Serbia will present itself as a leader in innovation, digitalisation, e-government, talent, creativity and ideas.
These are the fields in which Serbia is recognised today, in addition to its already well-known advantages, such as outstandingly delicious food, hospitality, wonderful landscape and rich culture and tradition.
Brnabic, who is also president of the Coordination Body for the participation of the Republic of Serbia at Dubai Expo 2020, stated that the Free Trade Agreement with the United Arab Emirates is planned to be signed in the Serbian Pavilion, which will span 2,000 square metres.
She recalled that Serbia’s latest presentation was at the World Exhibition in Milan in 2015, when Serbia entered fiscal consolidation, and that a lot has changed since then and that it set strategic directions for future development.
Since then, we have entered five or six years of significant growth, we have invested enormous effort to change Serbia and show it as a country that can offer much more than good food, history, tradition and beautiful landscapes, Brnabic said.
The Prime Minister also recalled that Serbia is one of the first countries in Europe to have introduced programming as a compulsory subject from the fifth grade of primary school, as well as that four science and technology parks and three new scientific institutes dealing with new technologies have been opened.
According to her, the Strategy for the Development of Artificial Intelligence was also adopted, making Serbia one of the 26 countries in the world that has that document.
Serbia is among the top 10 countries for talent, among the top five countries in the world in block chain technology, among the top 10 countries in the world in terms of video game production, a country that is increasingly home to development centres of the world's most advanced companies, such as Microsoft, MTU and others, Brnabic pointed out.
The Prime Minister said that she is also proud because the organisers of the exhibition recognised Serbia as a country of digitalisation and creative industries.
According to her, Serbia was invited, together with Canada and Italy, to lead the week of creative industries within the exhibition, and the week of digitalisation together with Estonia.
Brnabic pointed out that today our country is one of the leaders in these areas, which was unthinkable in 2015, stating that Serbia's appearance at Dubai Expo 2020 will create new opportunities for our companies and people and present what Serbia means today and what it can offer.
I look forward to the opening of the exhibition. Our economy needs to show all its strength, innovation and endurance. I hope that this will be the highlight of all our successes from 2015 until today, said Brnabic.
Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications and Commissioner General of the Republic of Serbia for Dubai Expo 2020 Tatjana Matic voiced hope that Serbia will attract many investors for the development of the tourism industry after the coronavirus pandemic, and added that in the presentation of the Serbian Pavilion the telecommunications sector will be dominant.
We are proud of our cultural and historical heritage, but also of our innovation and great minds that have marked the whole world. It is certain that our scientific institutes, universities and companies in the field of modern technologies will get a chance to present themselves at this event, Matic added.
President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Marko Cadez called on all businessmen and representatives of small-scale production to contact the Serbian Chamber of Commerce in order to jointly design the presentation of their ideas and products and to show what Serbia really creates.
Ana Ilic, Senior Advisor to the Serbian Prime Minister for Creative Industries and Tourism and Deputy Commissioner General of Serbia for Dubai Expo 2020, explained that Serbia will participate in the exhibition in Dubai with the topic "Serbia creates ideas - inspired by the past, we shape the future".
Our pavilion will also be a symbolic time capsule, we will start from Vinca, through how we influenced humanity through the work of Tesla, Pupin, Milankovic, to modern Serbia and digitalisation, innovation and creativity, Ilic said.
