Head of Veterinary Services of the Veterinary Directorate of the Serbian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management Slavoljub Stanojevic said today that there is no bird-flu in Serbia, but serological tests are underway to examine wild birds.
Speaking at a press conference in Novi Sad, Stanojevic said that intensive examination and testing of water surfaces, where the arrival of wild migratory birds from Asia and Siberia is expected, is also in progress.
According to Stanojevic, the uppermost aim is to protect poultry production because the emergence of bird-flu will cause the country huge economic losses, considering the fact that in Serbia there are large reserves of live poultry, with a population of approximately 17 million.
