At the meeting, which focused on environmental protection and energy issues, Brnabic pointed out that, regardless of how much investment is needed in the field of environmental protection, the government is ready to do so and has set a green agenda and a green transition in the field of environmental protection and energy as one of the three key priorities.
The Prime Minister stated that the negotiating position for Chapter 27, which will be opened through the cluster, has been completed, and that it is being discussed with partners from the European Union.
In the last three years, many energy facilities have been built that produce electricity from renewable energy sources, and from 2014 until today, the state has invested approximately €600 million in the construction of desulphurisation plants only.
This seems like a lot, but it is nothing compared to how much we need to invest to ensure compliance with the requirements of EU directives in the field of water management. It is estimated that we should invest almost €6 billion in that, Brnabic explained.
The Prime Minister stated that the construction of water treatment plants in 27 local self-government units will begin by the end of the year, and that in the first six months of the current government, funds have been provided for resolving the landfill issue.
She also recalled that the Law on Climate Change was adopted in March this year at the proposal of the government, which is the first systemic law for limiting the emission of greenhouse gases.
The Prime Minister also recalled that the public debate on the amendments to the Law on Nature Protection has been completed, as well as that important laws in the field of energy have been adopted, including the Law on Renewable Energy Sources.
The Prime Minister stated that there is a lot of false news and controversy regarding the fact that the government is protecting investors, which has never been the case since 2014, saying that environmental protection is an important topic that should not be manipulated, especially not politically.
