New portal for reporting security threats against journalists

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and Information Maja Gojkovic held today a regular monthly meeting with the Working group for security and protection of journalists, which was also attend by a representative of the Supreme Court of Cassation.

The participants in the meeting discussed harmonising court practices in proceedings concerning security threats against journalists. It was pointed out that dialogue with the Supreme Court of Cassation on this important topic should be continued.

The representative of the OSCE Mission to Serbia presented the most important results of the Analysis supported by the Mission, which contains the opinion of Professor Zoran Stojanovic with proposals for changes to the Criminal Code, which would ensure a comprehensive protection of journalists. These issues will be examined as part of further changes to the Criminal Code.

A new portal bezbedninovinari.rs was presented, which will contain all data on contact points in public prosecutor's offices and police administrations for reporting security threats to journalists and media workers.

Deputy Public Prosecutor of the Republic of Serbia Branko Stamenkovic said at the meeting that in March the Public Prosecutor's Office opened six cases relating to security threats to journalists, which is less than in two previous months.
