Economic indicators in all areas better than expected

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic chaired today the session of the Council for Coordination of Activities and Measures for Gross Domestic Product (GDP) Growth, which analysed the most important economic indicators in all economic areas in the first quarter and projections by the end of 2021.

Brnabic said that the results of the first quarter were better than expected, but that this was by no means a reason to relax.

It was stated at the session that the Serbian industry showed exceptional toughness during the pandemic, despite certain restrictions that are especially visible in the meat, starch and pastry industries, which is a consequence, as explained, of falling demand.

The good news comes from the field of agriculture, considering that a significant step forward is expected in the fruit growing sector, which could be measured in 2013, which was a record, and if there are no weather conditions, wheat will have an excellent yield.

When it comes to the world market, Serbian agricultural products have a significant chance, it was said at the session.

Trends in the economy are also stable, in the sector of road and railway infrastructure, works are going according to plan, and on 1 May, the beginning of works on the fast road Novi Sad-Ruma (Fruska gora corridor) is expected.

The planned projects will begin this year in the energy sector as well as in the field of environment, in cooperation with the Office for Public Investment Management.

The line ministers informed the Prime Minister about that and that the problems that appear during the realization of the projects are solved on the ground and in the shortest possible time.
