Rehn, Labus addressing the press
In a statement to the press, Labus explained that there will be a significant number of talks on technical matters and he expects that those will be completed successfully.
“We discussed the next steps in the negotiation process on the conclusion of the Contract on Stabilisation and Association with the EU, as well as a possible schedule”, said the Deputy Prime Minister.
According to Labus, they also discussed which topics the state union will be in charge of, and which will be under the jurisdiction of member states.
Negotiations could begin with talks on trade and customs rates, he explained.
EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn thanked Labus for consistent support of Serbia-Montenegro’s EU perspectives.
“The Deputy Prime Minister and I discussed challenges that lay ahead, so as to speed up the negotiating process”, Rehn added.
“It is extremely important to establish a joint attitude on the issue of EU integration both at the level of the state union and that of Serbia and Montenegro individually”, he concluded.
