Good government performance in extraordinary circumstances due to COVID-19

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic assessed today that she is satisfied with the work of the government in the first 100 days, stating that the work will continue in the next period, even faster and better.

Presenting the results of 100 days of the government in Kombank Hall, Brnabic said that the government has been working in extraordinary circumstances due to the coronavirus epidemic, but that Serbia was used to achieving results that were unimaginable until a few years ago.

She stated that in that sense, if Serbia ended 2020 with the best economic result in Europe, it is expected to be among the first three or five countries in Europe by end-2021.

It is a challenge for the government, but it is good for the country, because we are finally used to thinking of ourselves as winners. Today, countries from Europe come to learn from us how vaccination is carried out, said Brnabic.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the government, although satisfied with its work, must work faster and better, and reminded that RSD 330 billion is set aside for capital investments, and that plan must be fulfilled in order for economic growth to be 6%, as planned.

She stated that many countries, bigger and richer, are learning from Serbia how to organise effective immunisation against coronavirus.

Brnabic emphasised that the incredibly difficult 2020 is behind us and that she hopes that 2021 will be completely different.

The Prime Minister reminded that the government, in the field of the fight against coronavirus, opened two completely new hospitals, one in Belgrade and the other in Krusevac, with more than 1,500 beds.

We are one of the three countries in the world that managed to do something like that in just four months, said the Prime Minister.

She reminded that Serbia, after Great Britain, is among the first in Europe to receive the vaccine, as well as that it was among the first to start vaccination, after Great Britain and Switzerland.

Brnabic pointed out that more than 525,000 people have been vaccinated so far, and 21,000 have already been revaccinated.

The Prime Minister mentioned that significant steps had been made in the area of the rule of law in the first 100 days of the government's work, including the formation of the Working Group for the Safety and Protection of Journalists.

We have sent an initiative to the Assembly to amend the Constitution in the field of justice. From the first day, we have been working with the body of the Council of Europe for the fight against corruption, GRECO, on the implementation of their recommendations, the Prime Minister pointed out.

According to her, the government has adopted an Action Plan for the implementation of the media strategy and formed a working group for its implementation.

Brnabic also said that the action of arresting the criminal group of Veljko Belivuk on Thursday sent a strong message that Serbia is a strong and safe country and that there are no protected people.

We have shown courage and determination in the fight against organized crime. President Vucic announced this fight and the government put it at the top of its priorities and on Thursday arrested 17 members of a criminal group suspected of the most serious and heinous crimes, Branbic pointed out.

The operational work, she pointed out, lasted for months before the arrest, on which the Ministry of the Interior, the BIA, the prosecutor's office and other institutions were working.

We will continue this fight and focus on those who worked for the state and protected criminals, she said.

Today, the Prime Minister called on all Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija on the eve of the upcoming elections in the province not to divide and continue to be united, as they were in the years behind us.

Since the Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija are united, they have become an important factor, a factor that must be listened to and respected, and they have contributed to their position being better, but also to Belgrade's position being much better and stronger in dialogue with Pristina, said the Prime Minister.

Brnabic announced that the new package of assistance to citizens and the economy worth €2.5 billion is being finalised and that it will be officially presented in a few weeks.

She stated that all the details have not been determined yet, but she repeated that it is a matter of covering 50 percent of the minimum for three months, as well as financial assistance to all adult citizens in the amount of €60 euros, and to pensioners in the amount of €110.

The Prime Minister also announced support for motor transport companies.

Brnabic also reminded that Serbia is among the top five countries in the world in terms of economic support, and that last year it set aside 12% of GDP for that, but also that further support to the economy depends on filling the budget.
