Speaking at a press conference marking a promotion of the Beocin business park, Sekulovic said that no other foreign company in Serbia has offered such a project so far. He also pointed out that Lafarge Beocin has once again made a pioneer move, as it had done the moment it entered the Serbian market.
Sekulovic said that investments, worth tens of millions of euros, have already been announced, and added that the project’s main goal is not chasing profit, but developing a sustainable, socially responsible business.
He stressed that in the first eight months of 2005, foreign investment in Serbia, worth more than $1 billion, has exceeded the total amount of last year’s investment, and expressed hope that there will be just over $1.5 billion worth of foreign direct investment entering Serbia by the year’s end.
Zoran Tesic, president of the Beocin municipality, which is a partner in the projects, said that foreign investors will be offered the quickest possible issuing of all necessary working licences.
Tesic said that 531 businessmen and 316 legal persons do business on the territory of the Beocin municipality, including, beside the Lafarge Beocin, two Austrian partner companies – Asamer and Wietersdorfer.
New Lafarge Beocin CEO Camil Befa pointed out that €55 million have been invested in the Beocin factory so far, as well as an additional €15 million in the social welfare programme.
Camil explained that the Beocin business park is a non-profit project, aimed at a long-term increase of industrial activity and the improvement of life for citizens of the Beocin municipality.
